Its hard to describe just what this machine does in era used to the digital age . There were divots where you put your hands and drew the film back and forth in either direction across a light that would project it on a viewfinder. Many of the OLD SCHOOL editors edited entire feature films on machines such as this. Its hard to believe doing this with literally thousands of feet of film footage.  Once you make a mistake you can't go back, its not like now with digital digital video editors where the cuts can be taken back with just a few clicks.On the old machines mistakes were costly.
