A wall, of course being not only an easily recognizable metaphor, but also a solid background that contrasted the text that needed the most attention in this particular shot. A lighter color background would probably been a poor choice.  In film and media every shot should have proper attention paid to it. In this case it served a dual purpose invoking a familiar idea as well as a wise aesthetic choice for presentation of important information.
