8)Revenge of a Monkey's Uncle

TITLE: REVENGE OF A MONKEY'S UNCLE
STATUS/DATE:2005
GENRE: Comedy Horror
LENGTH: Approx 20 min
LOCATION: Filmed and produced in Columbia, SC

WHAT IS:
Bliss, Pain, Trauma; The story of a man and the monkey he would leave behind. This is a short film done in black and white with color highlights in certain spots. Like many things I do this was a "case study" that was meant to be a stepping stone to something else, but it turned out rather well considering what i had to work with, and ended up in the Donen Indie Grits Film Festival and was screened during the horror block. It was really never meant to be shown to anyone, let alone thousands of people. the irony is that all all the things I have completed to date this one refuses to die. I find it entertaining, sure, but for some reason people really latched onto this thing

PRODUCTION:
Not sure how the idea started, but I do remember out of a group of friends in film school, this one particular smug friend said "what.. do you think you can do the whole thing yourself? That would be impossible."  So I took that as a challenge and after storyboarding the thing I began to figure out how to get each shot I needed using only myself, a camera and a army of stuffed blue monkeys.  There were a few shots that were very tricky, especially where the monkey ends up murdering the poor showering soul a la Psycho. It was the first run through I had done through the entire process of making a film. Starting with script, storyboarding, then props, costumes, camera work, animatronics, digital effects, practical effects, original scoring, original sound effects (all sound was put in post, as well as dialogue), DVD case design and artwork.
